Sightsavers: Balanced Scorecard

The Client

Sightsavers is an international third sector organisation, who work tirelessly to prevent avoidable blindness and to support people with visual impairments in over thirty countries worldwide.

Their Challenge

As an international charity, monitoring and reporting on performance against a broad range of internal corporate and externally driven stakeholder targets became a large administrative and managerial challenge.

Moreover, it was key for Sightsavers to increase transparency and visibility of its operations, helping to demonstrate tangible benefit of its existence and thereby providing the confidence to new donors and grant making bodies.

Our Solution

We created the SIM card (strategy, implementation and monitoring) system; consisting of a strategy map and a scorecard. The strategy map breaks down long-term goals and aims into tangible objectives across each part of the organisation.

We also created a publicly available dashboard, which shows the targets of the business, and how they are performing against target.

As well as providing a highly visible and easily understood series of graphic representations of performance against target, the SIM card system also enables the production of ad-hoc and scheduled reports.

The Benefits

Our SIM card system has helped Sightsavers to become a more efficient, lean, and effective organisation. It provides management and stakeholders with an overview of the performance of the charity, allowing them to see were to focus resources and funds in the future.

Creating reports using SIM card has also helped Sightsavers to make resource and time savings.

The easy to use dashboard provides a visual way for management to see if the charity is meeting its targets. In addition the transparency created by making this public helps to create confidence in donors to continue to donate, helping to attract significant government grants.
